The Chimelong Marine Science Park – the key project of the second phase of the Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort located in Hengqin – has recently finished its main structure construction and will become the world’s largest indoor theme park once put into operation.

As reported by Guangdong online newshub southcn.com, the total length of the starship-shaped structure is about 650 meters while the total construction area of the building is some 400,000 square meters, with a daily visitor capacity to be over 50,000.

The Zhuhai Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort located in Hengqin and owned by the Chimelong Group, currently consists of one theme park, two theaters, and three themed hotels.

After ten years of planning, research and development, and five years of construction, the new marine science park was previously set to finish construction and open in 2021, but the construction duration is delayed with still no clear date provided on when the park will be opened.

The Chimelong Marine Science Park will include 10 themed areas and display a total of more than 100,000 marine animals of around 300 species.

The park has the world’s largest living coral tank, with a water depth of 5 meters and a water volume of 3,200 cubic meters, feeding more than 100 kinds of living corals in the tank.

“The water volume of the main aquarium in the park will reach 53,000 cubic meters, which is going to break another world record. Also, the display window on the side of the main aquarium is 46.2 meters long and 8.3 meters high, and will become the world’s largest aquarium display window as well, ” Jiang Minling, general manager of the resort said as reported by southcn.com.

Meanwhile, the science park will have 15 “science share spaces” using multimedia technology, and the largest among them – the “Ocean University” – can accommodate 5,000 people at the same time.

The Chimelong Marine Science Park can drive the development of the cultural and tourism industries of both Hengqin and Macau, and can create a new tourism attraction site in the Greater Bay Area, Professor Bao Jigang, the founding dean of the School of Tourism of Sun Yat-sen University indicated to southcn.com.

Chimelong has also discussed with Macau about constructing a sightseeing cable car that connects Macau and Hengqin, with the planned route length to be over 10 kilometers, passing through some famous Macau attractions and major scenic spots in Chimelong.
